CANCELLED: Human-directed behaviour in farm animals – the goats who stare at scientists
Date and Time
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS. WE WILL AIM TO RESCHEDULE THIS EVENT IN THE FALL SEMESTER.
Christian Nawroth is a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) in Dummerstorf, Germany. After completing his PhD in Halle, Germany, he was a research fellow at the Queen Mary University London where he worked on goat-human interactions. He moved then to the FBN where he is now running a project on the effects of domestication and specific selection objectives on learning and cognition in goats. Christian will summarise recent advances in studies on the cognitive capacities of domestic goats, focusing especially on how goats interact with humans. Based on these findings, he will outline how applied research could benefit from these results, considering that subtle human behavioural changes can affect the behaviour of farm animals.
