OVC Animal Welfare Forum (multi-day format) begins Oct 20th!

For the last 20 years, the OVC Animal Welfare Club has put together an annual Forum with speakers addressing the various conceptions of animal welfare. This year the event will be virtual and delivered as short lunchtime seminars every Tuesday from Oct 20-Nov 10 from 12:30-1:30pm. The list of speakers and their topics are below.
Please register in advance here to be sure that you are emailed the Zoom link to attend, as space is limited. A unique link will be sent out each week, via the email address you provide when you register. Details will be posted on the forum's facebook page as they become available.
Speakers for the 2020 OVC Animal Welfare Forum series:
- October 20th: The Shocking Truth about Electronic Collars for Dog Training by Dr. Lee Niel
- October 27th: Mink farming: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly by Dr. Georgia Mason
- November 3rd: Thoroughbred Racehorse Welfare Through the Lens of ‘Social License to Operate’ by Dr. Camie Heleski
- November 10th: Labels and Fables: How misleading Claims on animal products harm farm animals, and what consumers can do to drive change by Daisy Freund
Hosted by the OVC Students Animal Welfare Club, the Forum seeks to address a range of topics related to animal welfare. Where are we now, what concerns should we consider, and where will we go from here? Registration is free and donations are applied to the annual Care-a-Thon Scholarship. This award is provided to a graduate student at the University of Guelph who's research has the greatest possibility of applied improvement to animal welfare.
