Yvonne will present on Animal Protection Law: From Law to Action – Principles, Cases, and Challenges. Yvonne will explore the fundamental principles behind effective animal protection laws. She will discuss how high welfare standards can be achieved through innovative legal frameworks and robust enforcement mechanisms, highlighting examples and legal precedents.

Frida will present on Swedish Animal Welfare Legislation: Purpose, Enforcement, and some Challenges. In her presentation, she will describe the Swedish animal welfare legislation, focusing on its objectives, recent developments, and the standards it aims to achieve. Frida will also discuss how the legislation is enforced through the inspection system and the potential consequences for non-compliance by animal keepers. Additionally, she will touch on the current challenges faced regarding both the legislation itself and its enforcement.

Yvonne Niño Vázquez is a practising lawyer from Spain and Policy Officer at the World Veterinary Association. She holds a Master’s degree in Animal Law and Society, specializing in animal law, international animal health policy, and advocacy.

Dr. Frida Lundmark Hedman is a researcher in animal welfare at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, with a special interest in regulations and policies related to the protection of various types of domestic animals.
